At Hopkins Roofing, we try to live by a set of core values that we hope represent us well. While identifying core values is a good thing for everyone to do, it can be very difficult to live up to what you say your values are. Sometimes we have to be honest and admit that we aren’t living up to our values which is a hard thing to accept. This can lead to discouragement that results in us giving up on our desire to live by a set of standards, or it can inspire us to identify the reasons we aren’t achieving our ideal behavior and make changes.
Over the past year, there have been many instances where our company has had to admit that we missed the mark with respect to our core values. Our actions and attitudes didn’t always line up with our values and we were forced to ask ourselves some hard questions. We have chosen to embrace these times of questioning and use them to propel us toward a better future instead of being discouraged and giving up.
The values we try to live by are: Expertise, Professionalism, Integrity, Generosity, and Relationship. Each of these words means something to us and we strive to display all of these characteristics all of the time so that anytime anyone interacts with us they see these values in us. We know this is a lofty goal and something we will struggle to achieve this all of the time, but it does not deter us from trying to continue to improve.
Do you know what your core values are? What about where you work – do you know what your company’s values are? We believe it is way more important to understand who we are and who we desire to be than what we do. Roofing is our business, but our values will drive our success or failure as a company. Our commitment is to continually improve to get as close as possible to living out our core values for the benefit of our customers and employees.
